Swades

Swades Synopsis:

Shahrukh Khan’s Swades deals with the issues that development brings to light at the grassroots. This film contrasts NASA’s highly developed world with India’s, which is at the crossroads of development, as well as the highly developed world of NASA.

A NASA project manager returns to his childhood home in search of the nanny he lost as a child. In the quest for that elusive place called “home”, Mohan’s simple quest becomes the journey we each take.

In spite of this, Mohan is able to gain a new perspective through this journey. He sees the village in a completely different light. As he shows them how to become independent in their own right, he takes matters into his own hands.

Gita and Mohan fall in love as the project nears completion. His native country now stands between him and returning to America. In the final scene, Mohan and his friend Nivaaran wrestle in front of a temple in the village.
